Sharmini Boyle is FMM’s new convener

The Free Media Movement has appointed Sharmini Boyle of YA TV as its convener.The FMM appointed new office bearers at its general meeting at the SLPI yesterday (May 29).
Its secretary is Sunil Jayasekara of Iruresa, and Sampath Samarakoon of Vikalpa the deputy secretary.

Tamil National Alliance informed Australian High Commissioner that there was no more implemented in the country since the resolution pass against the SriLanka at the United Nation. They also noted number of military activities and interference increased in the Northern Province by day today basis.

A unique temple of Eezham Tamil folk heritage, dedicated to Kooddaththaar, a deity historically worshipped by a soldier guild that got absorbed into the toddy-tapping community, was found destroyed in bombing and its rare bronze idol sawed off and stolen at the Vasanthapuram locality of I'lavaalai in Jaffna.

EPF deals of 4 B.: ICEU complains to Bribery Comm.

The Inter-company Employees Union (ICEU) will lodge a complaint with the Bribery Commission today on the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) investments in the stock market. The ICEU said the EPF had incurred a massive loss of four billion rupees in this questionable deal.

Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries & Small Enterprise Development and also the leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party has taken exception to The Country Report For Human Rights Practices 2011 released by US State Department on 25 May 2012, where it has been alleged EPDP as one of the pro-government paramilitary groups which committed killings and assaulted civilians.

TNA MP Suresh Premachandran refuting recent remarks made by Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that the statement was a prelude to changing the demographic patterns of the North.  In an interview with BBC, Defence secretary Rajapaksa has said it is not appropriate to view the north of the country, over which a separatist war was fought, as a predominantly Tamil area.

Muslim journalist assaulted for expressing solidarity with Mannaar Bishop

An official employed by the Sri Lankan Minister of Industries and Trade, Rishard Badurdeen, on Monday assaulted a 72-year-old Muslim journalist, MA Cader, for having taken part in a prayer expressing solidarity with Mannaar Bishop on Sunday with thousands of civilians of all walks of life in Mannaar.
